Events in March 2017

Sun 19 March. 7.45pm. Roath Church House. Lenten Discussion “Not Peace But a Sword”. All welcome. Please feel free to just turn up or contact Paul Elliott 20-482757 for more info.

Mon 20 Mar. 10am-4pm. Llangasty Retreat House. Drop-In Day with Eucharist at 12pm. An opportunity to pause for prayer and personal reflection – come for all or part of the day. Bring your own lunch. Coffee/tea provided. No charge, but donations welcome. No need to book.

Tue 21 Mar. 1pm. St David’s Hall. Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir and Orchestra perform a major sequence from Handel’s Messiah. Tickets £6/£7 from or 20-878444.

Tue 21 March. 7.30pm. St Edward’s. St Edward’s Orchestra Soloists Concert. Entrance free. Retiring collection.

Wed 22 March. 7.25-9.30pm. St Edward’s. Cardiff Recorded Music Society talk entitled “The American classical tradition”. America had to rely heavily on the European model in its attempts to establish a classical tradition.  Geoff Trinick attempts to show to what extent the USA was successful in adapting its own musical roots to the stricter discipline of what we call classical music. Non-members welcome (entrance £2).

Thur 23 March. 7.30pm. Ewenny Priory. South Wales Clarinet Choir perform as one of the “Music Festival Events”. This is a beautiful venue with great acoustics, and has been described as “the most atmospheric Romanesque space in Wales”.

Sat 25 March. 9.30am-4pm. National Waterfront Museum, Swansea. ACAT Foundation Training Course for Church Treasurers. Primarily for Treasurers of churches whose annual income is under £250,000. Both members and non-members of ACAT are invited to enrol for the course. Cost including buffet lunch: £45.

Sat 25 March. 7.30pm. St John’s Church, Canton. Welsh Camerata present choral music by Schütz and Buxtehude. Tickets £12/£10 at the door or

Sat 25 March. 7.30pm. St Edward’s. Spring Concert: Carl Grainger (Piano) and Ulrich von Hecker (Violin) perform sonatas by Bach, Mozart and Elgar. Entrance £3 and donations requested for the Oasis Music Project.

Tue 28 Mar. 1pm-2pm. St David’s Hall. Organ Recital by Raúl Prieto Ramírez (Spain). Admission: pay whatever you feel is appropriate.

Wed 29 March. 1.05pm. Beulah United Reformed Church, Rhiwbina. Lunchtime Concert. Emyr Wyn Jones (Bass Baritone) and Jeffrey Howard (piano). £5 at the door.

Thur 30 March. 5.15-6.15pm. Llandaff Cathedral. Choral Evensong with Installation of the High Sheriff of Glamorgan. Fri 31 March. 1-1.30pm. National Museum of Wales. Organ recital by David Geoffrey Thomas (Llandaff Cathedral). Admission free. Places limited: book at Info Desk.
