Regular weekly services:

There is a Family Communion Service with a Sunday School meeting at 11am every Sunday, and Choral Evensong at 6.30pm every Sunday. Both services are sung by St Edward's Choir. There is also a celebration of Holy Communion at St Edward's on Wednesday morning at 10.15am. Details of this week's services may be found in the current edition of St Edward's Newsletter.

11am Family Communion and Sunday School

This is a traditional Sung Communion Service with choral settings led by a mixed choir. There is a mixture of traditional hymns and modern worship songs.

The Sunday School meets in the Community Room. This was built in 1992 on to the West end of the Church, in response to the increasing size of the Sunday School which at that time was meeting in the Vestry. All ages from newborn to about 11 years are catered for - adults are requested to accompany younger children. The School is not run as a crêche - even the youngest children are fully involved in the activities. The Sunday School joins the main Service at the Offertory.

6.30pm Choral Evensong

This is the traditional Anglican Office of Evensong (derived from the pre-Reformation office of Vespers, the seventh of the eight daily offices said just before sunset), with a variety of choral music, including two anthems, choral settings of canticles, and the full prescribed psalms to Anglican Chant (a wide and interesting repertoire). The Preces and Responses are sometimes fully choral, and sometimes the "Ferial" version. The music is chosen to reflect the Lessons and Psalms prescribed for the day. It is derived from a wide variety of periods, with a bias towards 16th and 17th century polyphony. St Edward's Choir sings Choral Evensong every Sunday except on a few occasions when there are special services: Easter Day (Easter Readings and Music), Harvest Thanksgiving on the first Sunday in October (Harvest Readings and Music), Remembrance Sunday (special service with Act of Remembrance), the First Sunday of Advent (Advent Carols), the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Nine Lessons and Carols for Christmas).

Wednesday Morning Communion

The 10.15am Service on Wednesdays is a quiet but well attended celebration of the Holy Eucharist. It is followed by a cup of coffee in the Community Room.

Morning and Evening Prayer

Normally, one or other of the traditional Daily Anglican Offices is said most days of the year. The daily services were discontinued because of Covid, but we are gradually re-introducing them (see current Newsletter for details).

Other Services

Compline

The Office of Compline is sung occasionally at St Edward's on Thursday evenings at 9pm (see current Newsletter for details).

O antiphons

In the eight days 16-23 December the O Antiphons are chanted before and after the Magnificat, and sung as an anthem, at Evening Prayer each day at St Edward’s.
